Level Design Toolkit

Speeding up the block out and messuring process during level desing is something I have investigated quite a bit, first by diving into cube-grid and clear communication through prototype textures.

But to make Unreal work with how I wanted I developed a toolkit together with a classmate that helps with the block out and gym creation phase. This toolkit has been in use by me and other teams at our university to test and iterate upon it all to help create a more optimized and easy process.

Modelling

I have been interested in getting my ideas across in a 3D medium for a while, from my industrial design background I was familiar with modelling for design in SolidWorks, but to allow me to create more esthetical pieces I started to learn Blender in my spare time.

 

Throughout my game development journey, I have kept using Blender to create quick assets and also experimented with other modelling programs like BlockBench.

Sketching

For my industrial design degree, I was taught product sketching, which included learning perspective drawing, rendering materials, reflections and shadows.

This background knowledge has been extremely helpful with sketching for my projects to get ideas for levels or mechanics across to my team.
